Bugatti Veyron Owner Drives Into a Lake!

30 Nov

To this day, I have never figured out why most true enthusiasts are stuck driving economy cars while the rich, who buy cars to reflect their affluence, get all the good ones.  It’s true that I’m in love with my 22 -year-old CRX.  That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t rather be driving a Nissan GT-R.  The story that I’m about to relate should boggle the mind of any sane person on the face of the planet, yet it happened in broad daylight and in a 2.2 million dollar Bugatti.

In November of 2009 a resident of Texas was driving his Bugatti Veyron along a highway near Galveston Texas.  Just as anyone driving a care of such rarity should assume, he was being video taped by a drooling admirer.  To the dismay of the exotic smitten paparazzi, the Veyron promptly veered off the highway and took a drink in the lake!  There seemed to be no apparent reason that the undeserving operator should have run off the road.  No cars were near by, no animal ran across the road, and the weather couldn’t have been better.  The insurance claim for the accident is now under investigation as it is suspected that the owner of owner of the Bugatti intentionally drove into the lake to collect 2.2 million dollars from the insurance company.  He claims he was distracted by a low flying pelican that cause a reflection while he was searching for his cell phone, which he had dropped.  If you watch the footage of the crash you’ll be hard pressed to see any wildlife whatsoever.

Two lessons can be taken away from this experience.  If you need to wreck your exotic on purpose to get the insurance money, you probably shouldn’t have bought it in the first place.  Second: If your car is worth more than $100,000, you should always assume your being recorded.

Bugatti Veyron is my ultimate dream car. It is a super-luxury, incredibly high-performing sports car, which has been made available in many appealing special editions.

[…] Pricing for the Vitesse hasn’t been officially announced yet, but seeing as how it blends the personalities of the $2 million Grand Sport and the $3.3 million Super Sport, I’d expect the price to be somewhere in the middle of that range.  Either way, you’ll need to be a mega millionaire or billionaire to bring one of these babies home, or you could just buy one frivolously and then drive it into a lake to claim the insurance… […]
